Hello and welcome prospective members of the Colorado Springs Football Officials Association (CSFOA).
We, the CSFOA, begin each season with classes that will introduce you to the rules and procedures of officiating high school football. This year the classes start, Monday June 25th and another class on Thursday the 28th. There will be no classes the week of the July, 2nd. We will pick them up after that going Mondays and Thursdays for three more weeks. At that point you are given a 100 question exam. After successfully passing the exam, you will be “drafted” onto one of ten crews. That is followed by an on-field mechanics clinic in August and a scrimmage or two with your crew mates. At that point, you will be eligible to start doing games.
Most first year officials will do sub-varsity games – junior high, c squad, junior varsity etc. How many games you do, will depend on your availability, skill and interest. We use an online program for scheduling so you have the ability to “block” any days and or times you are not available.
Keep in mind that although this is a fun endeavor it is a real commitment as you will witness by the passion shown by the veteran members of the association. There is expense in getting your uniforms and you are expected to attend weekly meetings during the season. Games are played almost every weekday, some beginning as early as 3pm during the week and on more on Saturdays. The only way to improve as an official is by doing games. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule.
Our meeting and classes start at 6:20 and will be held at:
Trinity United Methodist Church
701 N 20th St. Colorado Springs, 80904
Please enter through the lower doors and make your way to their auditorium.
Thanks for your interest, I will be in touch with more detailed information regarding the CSFOA and becoming a member of the association.
